UBC Staff Go the Extra Mile for MacMillan and Mind Charity Fundraising

Friday 27th September 2019 is a special day for many reasons. It’s the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning - a day that brings people together to raise money for MacMillan Cancer Support, which provides help and support to people living with cancer.

In addition to raising money for a worthy cause, this day is also about collaboration, awareness, and shared experiences. Because when people come together for a common cause, it helps to raise awareness and spread the message that little bit further.

Today, UBC centres across the country are taking part in the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning and offering cakes, nibbles, savoury goodies and hot drinks - in return for a donation for MacMillan.

So if you’re in a UBC office today, do go and see our staff for some cake and donate to a good cause. After all, we all know someone affected by cancer.

Mind - the Mental Health Charity

In addition to fundraising along with the rest of the country for the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning, UBC is dedicated to raising over £4,000 for Mind, the mental health charity.

UBC started fundraising for Mind earlier this year, and chose the charity by asking clients which cause they most wanted to support in 2019. Mental health problems are the biggest health issue of our time, affecting at least 1 in 4 of us, and it can stop us living our lives as we need or want to.

To date, UBC has collected over £3,800 for Mind - a whopping 95% of our target!

This is a fantastic result that has only been possible thanks to the generous support and donations of clients and visitors at UBC centres across the country, and of course UBC’s hardworking staff, who plan and organise fundraising events throughout the year.

In 2019 this has included a variety of events:

  • Organising a team and completing the 10km Minchinhampton race
  • Wine tasting
  • A horse-riding day in the Cotswolds
  • Raffles, sweepstakes and games, with some wonderful donated prizes such as hampers, bottles of wine and entry tickets to local attractions
  • Cake and cookie sales

World Mental Health Day

UBC is now focused on the upcoming World Mental Health Day on 10th October 2019. It’s an opportunity for all of us to raise awareness of mental health issues and advocate against social stigma.

UBC’s Centre Managers have a number of activities planned throughout the day, which will of course include lots of fundraising opportunities for Mind.

Among them, UBC’s Cirencester team has planned a workshop with Sam Hawkins from Unique Coaching and Martin Seville from Empathy Coaching, who will spend the day at UBC Cirencester and offer complimentary coaching sessions to UBC clients.

They have both been through mental health struggles of their own and, with unique experiences and their own personal perspectives on overcoming mental health problems, they are now running their own businesses and committed to helping others do the same.

To date, UBC has collected and donated tens of thousands of pounds for local and nationwide charities. But none of it would be possible without the big-hearted support of our clients across the country, who give up their valuable time to participate in events and donate generously to support these vital causes. From all of us at UBC - thank you - and keep up the amazing work!
