Round Out the Year with a Motivational Meetup

Round Out the Year with a Motivational Meetup

This year, like the one before it, has been anything but straightforward. Whether your best-laid plans were derailed, or you found ways to pivot and grow, this final quarter could be decisive for your business.

That said, this time of year brings its own distractions that may disrupt your year-end planning.

Namely, the Christmas period. It never fails to serve up a lively blend of cheer and chaos. Both at work and at home, there will be a mix of winding down and frantically rushing to finish tasks, projects, and festive preparations.

To add to it all, there is the lingering uncertainty of the pandemic.

That’s why it’s more important than ever to get your people together for a motivational meetup.

What’s on the agenda?

Your main objective will be to review year-end targets and monitor progress. Staff may need help prioritising tasks and finding focus, especially given the fast-approaching December deadline.

Your next job may be to review the past 12 months and acknowledge positive and negative points. This is the time to praise successes, learn from mistakes, and set out strategies to build on these learnings for the year ahead.

Looking forward to the New Year, you’ll want to use this time to put new plans in place - or revisit plans you have already made - with fresh targets and objectives.

How to make it motivational

Given the importance of this time of year, you’ll need to keep your attendees focused and on the ball.

Introduce plenty of variety to keep your team tuned in. Mix up your speakers - have different members of staff take over, and if you feel it’s relevant, you may want to bring in an outside speaker to add a dash of extra engagement, or entertainment, to your meeting.

As any good leader will tell you, ‘The antidote to uncertainty is clarity’. This is your chance to be clear about what lies ahead and to explain your plans to reach your targets - contingencies and all. Provide a directional path forward and ensure your team understand how their individual roles tie into your vision.

Whether the purpose of your meeting is to reflect, or plan ahead, or both, this is the ideal time to celebrate and recognise standout achievements from the past year. Highlight your unsung heroes who stepped up, went above and beyond, helped others, and lived your company values.

Break up your event with coffee breaks, snacks, or interludes. During long meetings, a few moments of stretching or mindfulness exercises can help attendees recharge between periods of focus.

Above all, this event should help your team find focus, gain clarity, and feel inspired for the year ahead.
