Mental Health First Aid Training Course at UBC Fleet

We are extremely pleased to be hosting the 2 day Mental Health First Aid Training Course run by Simpila Mental Health, in the Lancaster Room on Thursday 22nd June and Friday 23rd June at a discounted price offered to UBC for £270 plus VAT per person.  This course would usually retail at £350 per person.

Mental health has been brought to the forefront of conversations over the course of the pandemic. 1 in 4 of us are likely to experience a mental health problem each year(*1), and it’s no surprise that this can impact our ability to work.

There are a number of factors that can contribute to poor mental health in the workplace, most of which only lead to further stress if left unaddressed. Mental ill-health is the single largest cause of disability in the UK(*2) when accounting for direct costs of services, lost productivity at work and reduced quality of life.

Why become a Mental Health First Aider?

MHFAiders® give employees someone to turn to when they’re struggling with their mental health. Businesses need to ensure that they’re looking after the mental health of their staff, both for employee wellbeing and business success. Reducing the stigma around mental health and having dedicated people to talk to can help to prevent employees from suffering, and instead feel safe to approach the topic and resolve the issue before it gets too severe.

Why become a Mental Health First Aider?

The training will teach you the following:

  • Recognise those that may be experiencing poor mental health and provide them with first-level support and early intervention
  • Encourage a person to identify and access sources of professional help and other supports
  • Practise active listening and empathy
  • Have a conversation with improved mental health literacy around language and stigma
  • Discuss the MHFAider® role in depth, including boundaries and confidentiality
  • Practise self-care
  • Know how to use the MHFAider Support App®
  • Know how to access a dedicated text service provided by Shout
