UBC Clients and Staff Raise Thousands for Children’s Charity, The Rainbow Trust

Every year, UBC commits to supporting and raising funds for a chosen charity. Throughout 2020/2021, we have been supporting The Rainbow Trust - a nationwide children’s charity that supports families who have a child with a life-threatening or terminal illness.

Although our fundraising efforts took an unexpected setback in 2020, we have been ramping up our charitable activities as people have come back to the office and new clients have moved into UBC. We’re thrilled to say that these efforts are paying off and we’re inching ever closer to hitting our year-end fundraising target of £4,500 - our most ambitious target yet!

To date we have raised over £3,477 with the help of our fantastic clients, which means we’re more than three-quarters of the way to reaching our £4,500 target. As 2021 draws to a close, the race is on to hit that magic number.

UBC’s Sam Snelson, who manages our Rutherford House offices in Birchwood, is coordinating the team’s fundraising activities and has plenty more events planned for December.

“UBC’s chosen charity of the year is a very worthy cause. So far, we have held some great fundraising events at our 7 centres including pizza days, cake sales, guessing games, and donut days.”

During the lockdown period, one activity that our staff coordinated remotely was a step challenge. It involved staff from every UBC centre completing a number of daily steps, which meant the team collectively walked the distance between all of our centres from Southampton up to Birchwood. This amounted to a staggering 155,000 steps and raised over £700.

In another example, Richard Bond, manager of UBC’s Enterprise House in Southampton, was sponsored to get a perm hairstyle and raised over £150 with the help of generous clients and colleagues.

“Our clients have really enjoyed getting involved in these events, especially during the challenging times we’ve all faced but also because they want to support The Rainbow Trust’s vital work,” added Sam. “Our wonderful clients are incredibly generous. They are very supportive and are always eager to get involved. We’re grateful for their support - without them, none of this would be possible.”

It’s also thanks to UBC’s hardworking staff for organising and running events and activities throughout the year. This includes our award-winning centre managers and customer service assistants who never back down from a challenge, our back-office staff, our management team, and of course Sam for pulling everything together.

Watch out for various events coming up in December including Name the Reindeer and Christmas Jumper Day.
