UBC Recognises Staff Achievements and Charity Success in Celebratory Bash

On Friday 17th January, UBC team members from all over the country got together in Manchester for the company’s annual celebratory bash.

All UBC employees were invited to the event including Chairman Tom Mulvaney, Managing Director Richard Johnson, all Centre Managers, the Senior Management team (Jane Erasmus, Heather Wrigley and Sharon Attwood), the Accounts team, and Customer Service Assistants.

As a customer-facing business, it’s rare that UBC has the opportunity to get the entire team together. So it was a particularly special occasion when UBC’s hardworking employees from all 7 centres - including as far afield as Southampton - turned out in force to enjoy an afternoon of team building, socialising and of course, plenty of fun!

In addition to an evening of wining and dining, it was also an opportunity for Senior Managers to update the team on the latest updates and recognise individual achievements in UBC’s Staff Awards.

So what happened - and who won what?

During the event, Richard Johnson, Managing Director of UBC, announced the winners:

  • UBC Employee of the Year: Sam Snelson - Business Centre Manager at Birchwood, Warrington

Commenting on Sam’s achievement, Richard said: “Since taking over as Manager at our Birchwood Office in Warrington, Sam has nurtured her team and taken every opportunity for self-development. As a result, Sam very quickly established herself as a top performer and is extremely popular with colleagues and customers.

“Her high standards and attention to detail are evident when you visit the Centre and she has had a phenomenal year in 2019. Sam represents everything that UBC look to offer our clients including professional service delivered with passion and a warm smile.”

  • UBC Team of the Year: Jen Saunders and Michelle Baum from UBC Cirencester

Commenting on Team Cirencester’s award, Richard said: “Jen and Michelle are a force to be reckoned with for all the right reasons. Jen and Michelle have worked seamlessly making 2019 one of the most successful years in the Centre’s history.

“In addition to their achievements at their home centre in Cirencester, Jen and Michelle have helped the business by training new teams in Henley-in-Arden and Brentford and by driving UBC’s charity support to new heights. With their help and encouragement, the company has exceeded our 2019 fund-raising target for Mind by over 35%. A truly fantastic team effort and an achievement worthy of recognition.”

Looking ahead, Richard added:

“2020 is a year of opportunity for UBC. We have a successful and scalable business platform and with the help of our fantastic team, 2020 will be a year of development and growth.”

Fundraising News and a New Charity for 2020

Following the awards, Richard announced UBC’s new charity for 2020 and revealed the results of 2019’s fantastic year-long fundraising efforts.

Last year, all UBC centres were dedicated to fundraising for mental health charity, Mind. Thanks to the generosity of our clients across all 7 centres, an incredible £5,768.15 was raised for Mind - smashing our original target of £4,000.

A huge, HUGE thank you to all of our wonderful clients for helping us to reach such a landmark amount. Never before has UBC raised so much money for such an important cause and it’s all thanks to our clients’ continued support. Every penny you have donated over the past year really has helped to make a huge and lasting difference. Thank you!

In particular, well done to everyone at Sentinel House in Fleet, Enterprise House in Southampton, and UBC Cirencester. Together you raised an astonishing total of over £3,500. Well done!

Now we’re looking ahead to 2020 and a different cause that we want to support over the next 12 months.

Drum roll please...

In 2020 our nominated charity is... The Rainbow Trust.

The Rainbow Trust supports families who have a child with a life-threatening or terminal illness. The UK charity provides special support to family members in a variety of ways, such as helping siblings with school attendance or day trips; visiting families at home to offer emotional support and respite; and visiting the family in hospital to help organise appointments and explain medical procedures.

According to The Rainbow Trust, today there are an estimated 49,000 children and young people in the UK living with a life-limiting or life-threatening condition who may require palliative care. The charity offers vital care to support these children and help their families cope on a day to day basis.

UBC teams across the country are now planning a variety of fundraising events and activities on behalf of The Rainbow Trust.  Follow us on social media and keep an eye on our events page for more information!
