On Business in The Wirral: Best Local Places to Eat, Shop, and Visit

Here at UBC, we’ve long known that The Wirral is a great place to do business. That’s why we leapt at the opportunity to acquire Thursby House in Bromborough earlier this year.

But don’t just take our word for it.

In addition to the dozens of small businesses located in our Wirral office space, the peninsula is home to thousands more businesses of all industries and sizes. What’s more, Merseyside’s startup growth rate is outstripping the national average, which sums up the strong entrepreneurial spirit in this vibrant corner of the North West.

To help you get to know the area a little better, UBC’s team at Thursby House offered some insider tips on the best local places to eat, shop, and stretch your legs.

What’s on the Doorstep?
Convenience is a top factor when choosing office space, and UBC’s business centre in Bromborough certainly makes getting around easy.

Our location on Croft Business Park means you’re just a short walk from the retail park. It’s packed with popular brands including TK Maxx, M&S Simply Food, Next, Boots, The Range, H&M, and Dunelm. It’s also home to two gyms, a cinema, and numerous restaurants.

Independent Shops
It’s not all about big brands - far from it. The Wirral is home to plenty of independent shops and family-run businesses, too.

A popular spot with both clients and staff from Thursby House is Inspirations Wholesale - an independent store with a coffee shop inside that sells homewares, interior accessories, and seasonal decorations - perfect for gift-browsing for the not-too-distant festivities!

Best Local Places to Eat
If you love tacos and tostadas, the Mexican restaurant Pina Loca in Bromborough Village is well worth a lunchtime visit, while the award-winning Muffs Deli is perfect for takeaway lunch.

For light bites after work, head to The Montgomery in Eastham Village; Rubens Café or Gossip Café/Wine Bar in Bromborough Village; The 3 Stags Pub in Spital, or The Red Fox in Thornton Hough.

Nearby Walks & Places of Interest
Get out and stretch your legs at nearby Eastham Country Park. The 100-acre woodland park is situated on the Wirral bank of the River Mersey and provides superb views across the estuary. A network of surfaced paths make it a great spot for walking and wildlife-spotting.

Visit the Best Place to Live
West Kirby has been named one of 2022’s best places to live in the Northwest of England, according to the Sunday Times. Its views across the River Dee, sandy beach, excellent independent cafés and bars, and easy access across the Mersey to Liverpool, make it a clear favourite.

Stroll the Longest Promenade in the UK
New Brighton has the longest promenade in the country at just over two miles long. Enjoy a leisurely lunch or after-work stroll and enjoy fantastic views of the Liverpool skyline.

Other local places to visit include:

  • Port Sunlight River Park with its array of walkways, wildlife, and a wetlands area.
  • Dibbinsdale Local Nature Reserve, Wirral’s largest ancient woodland and a Local Nature Reserve. Look out for local wildlife including woodpeckers, heron, kingfisher, skylark and numerous waterfowl.
  • Port Sunlight Village, including the beautiful Lady Lever Art Gallery is less than 2 miles away from Thursby House.
  • Enjoy fish ‘n chips on one of The Wirral’s beaches. Our favourites are Thurstaston, New Brighton, and of course, West Kirby.
  • Visit the oldest standing building on Merseyside at The Birkenhead Priory. Founded in 1150, the monks of this Benedictine monastery looked after travellers for centuries.

Why Wirral?

With flexible work now a key part of modern business, a key priority for entrepreneurs is about making work/life balance easy. That’s why location and convenience are usually top factors when choosing a workspace.

After all, if you split your working week between your home and the office, it makes sense to choose a workplace that’s easily accessible from home, so you don’t have to spend excessive time commuting.

That’s a big reason why The Wirral is such a popular place to do business. UBC's office space is just off the A41 and a five-minute drive from the M53, making it an easy commute to or from Liverpool, Chester, and North Wales.

Our serviced office spaces and meeting rooms are beautifully finished in a modern, contemporary style, providing a comfortable and business-focused environment for businesses ranging in size from 2 people upwards. If you don’t need a full-time office we can also offer hot-desk hire.

Best of all, our friendly team is here to offer help and professional support whenever you need us.

Those are just some of the reasons why businesses - including UBC - choose The Wirral. As for the other reasons, why not come and pay us a visit? You’ll soon discover why The Wirral is a great choice for growing a business and achieving the right work/life balance.
